Although Christmas Vacation is a fabulously funny festive film, it should not be used as inspiration for your holiday decorating.
Chris Heerlein found that out, when this year he recreated a scene from the movie where Clark Griswold hangs from the roof while trying to put up Christmas lights. The effect was a little too real, with several people calling 911 to get help.
One man — a veteran named Alfred Norwood — even ran to the rescue. When he realized it wasn’t real, he responded with humor.
“I was trying to get him down any way I can. Except when I started talking to him, he never said nothing!” Norwood told KVUE while laughing. “Then I thought, ‘Oh my God I hope he’s not dead, lemme call 9-1-1.’”
The family ended up giving Norwood a $500 gift card to show their appreciation for his good deed.
The display is still up, though; the family added a sign explaining it was just a Christmas display.
